Wow elements in shopping centre Seppä’s Restaurant World. In early 2024, a visually striking renovation was completed in the Jyväskylä-based shopping centre Seppä owned by LähiTapiola and managed by Colliers. The goal of the renovation was to unify the shopping centre’s restaurants into an inviting, cohesive whole and to create a visual connection between the Restaurant World and the central Square. The renovation was designed as part of a broader visual concept for the shopping centre, with concept, architectural, and principal design led by Bolder.

At the heart of the renovation is the effect ceiling, which serves both as a unifying element and as a powerful spatial experience.

  • It consists of 780 rods in five different lengths, arranged using parametric design to form a dynamic, wave-like shape
  • Some of the rods double as light fixtures, allowing general lighting to be subtly integrated into the structure
  • Green elements are incorporated into the design, bringing a touch of nature into the space and adding depth and dimension

The effect ceiling is not just an aesthetic feature – it is an experiential attraction that naturally guides visitors into the Restaurant World. The ceiling’s wave-like shape, rhythm, lighting, and greenery together form an impressive, cohesive whole.

The design language continues the shopping centre’s signature architectural theme of cylinders and circles, which is also reflected in floor patterns and lighting elements. In this way, the effect ceiling ties seamlessly into the broader visual story of the shopping centre, making the Restaurant World an integral part of Seppä – both physically and visually.
