The new hung ceiling in Sello Shopping centre was created to highlight the entrance serving the new Raide-Jokeri tramline, designed to create a “wow” effect and provide visual guidance. The goal was to create a striking and inviting entrance that attracts visitors and naturally directs foot traffic within the shopping center.
This visually impressive ceiling consists of 961 unique, wave-like panels that create an organic and flowing design. The ceiling design continues Sello’s long-standing abstract soundwave theme, which can also be seen in the backlit, perforated surfaces of the elevator blocks and the corridor decals. The new parametric ceiling was designed to seamlessly blend with the existing concept, reinforcing the shopping center’s cohesive visual identity.
Parametric design played a key role in the execution of this complex project, as each of the 961 ceiling panels is unique. By utilizing parametric tools, the final outcome could be visualized photorealistically, and the design could be easily modified. This enabled:
🔄 Faster iterations and design adjustments, allowing effortless testing and refinement of ideas.
🎯 High precision in planning, ensuring each panel fit perfectly in place.
♻️ Optimization of materials and resources, reducing waste and making the project more cost-effective.
For Sello’s ceiling, a parametric approach was essential, as it enabled the creation of an organic, flowing form that seamlessly integrates with the existing soundwave theme.
Collaboration with Sello has been seamless, built on a long-term partnership. Bolder Development Oy extends its gratitude to the property owners and management for their visionary approach and bold commitment to innovation, which made this striking project possible.
